The Harp at Old Radnor
The Harp at Old Radnor, Presteigne, Powys, LD8 2RH have now been awarded the prestigious Good Food Award for Gastro Pubs 2020. Over the last twelve months we have evaluated customer feedback and this Gastro Pub has demonstrated exceptional levels of food quality, service and value when compared to our industry benchmarks in their category.
In recognition of this achievement they have been duly awarded the 2020 Good Food Award for Gastro Pubs.
Independently owned and run by Chris and Angela Ireland since 2010 with, since 2018, the invaluable support of head chef Josh Smith and general manager Katie Marsden, the Harp is a real pub, with ancient slate floors, oak beams hung with locally grown hop garlands, antique settles and a huge open log fire. The cosy bar with its tiny serving hatch offers cask-conditioned real ales, local cider and perry, premium lagers and a wide range of good wines and soft drinks. There are no TVs or music, just a warm welcome from the owners and staff and old fashioned pub conversation round the bar. The menu comprises home-cooked and mainly locally-sourced food and offers simple pub classics like home-cooked ham with free-range eggs and proper chips alongside imaginative modern dishes created by Josh, which he changes every few weeks in accordance with the seasonal availability of ingredients. Dietary requirements such as gluten free and dairy free are taken care of, there are choices for vegetarians and at least one vegan option. The main menu is available Wednesday to Saturday evenings and Friday and Saturday lunchtimes (with sandwiches and snacks also available those lunchtimes). Sunday lunch is a traditional roast with fish and veggie options, booking for any meal is always advisable. Five simple but comfortable guest bedrooms are available, all with lovely views, if you want to stay and enjoy the delicious breakfast and the many attractions the area has to offer.
